Pilot Escapes After Firefighting Helicopter Crashes Into Dam
A NSW Rural Fire Service waterbombing helicopter has crashed into a dam near Eden in New South Wales.
NSW Ambulance confirmed to 10 daily there was only one person on board the helicopter and they have not suffered any serious injuries.
10 News First understands the pilot swam to safety after getting out of the crashed helicopter.
The helicopter crashed into Ben Boyd dam while collecting water at about 4pm on Thursday.
"The pilot was able to free himself from the aircraft and is safely on shore," a RFS statement read after the incident.
The helicopter remains submerged. It had been tasked to help at the Clyde Mountain fire in the Bega Valley Shire.
