Four Injured After Boat 'Explodes' On NSW Lake

An eight-year-old girl has suffered 'significant' burns and three others have also been injured after the boat they were on caught fire while on a lake in the NSW Riverina Region.

NSW Police said they were called to the incident at Lake Albert in Apex Park, south of Wagga Wagga at around 4:30pm on Wednesday after reports a boat had exploded and caught fire on the lake.

Emergency services found four people injured onboard the boat, including two young children.

An 11-year-old girl, a 40-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were all treated for minor burns.

An eight-year-old girl was treated for second-degree burns which officers described as "more significant".

Both children were believed to have been wearing life jackets, police said in a statement.

All four of the injured have now been transferred to nearby Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for additional treatment.

Firefighters were also called to the scene to extinguish the blaze and the lake remained closed on Wednesday evening crews attempted to recover the boat.

Police will now investigate the circumstances of the explosion.
