Man Drowns After He Was Allegedly Caught Breaking Into A House

A man has drowned in Queensland after he was allegedly caught breaking into a home and tried to flee by diving into a nearby lake.

Emergency services were called to a house in Robina on the Gold Coast at about 11.20am Thursday, following reports of an attempted break-in.

It is believed the alleged offender was interrupted while trying to break into a home at Blakehurst Pl, according to Queensland Police.

It's understood the man then fled to a nearby lake.

A witness told police they saw the man dive into the lake but he failed to resurface.

Police then launched an extensive land, air and water search to find the man.

But at 1.30pm divers located the man's body in the lake.

Police are working to identify the man.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
