WATCH: Truckie's Terror As Freak Crash Filmed On Busy Motorway

A truck driver has had a lucky escape after his vehicle rolled on Sydney's packed M5 motorway.

The crash happened about 2.45pm on Monday near the eastbound off-ramp at Milperra.

Exclusive vision of the crash, filmed by a 10 News First truck that was travelling on the road at the time, shows the truck pulling over into a breakdown lane, before swerving sharply to avoid a car that had suddenly stopped.

The truck swerved before it finally rolled and blocked traffic.

The driver escaped through the windscreen which had shattered during the crash.

He was wearing a seatbelt and told 10 News First he was "very lucky" to have walked away unharmed.

"A car just stopped in front of me and I tried to avoid it and my truck went side-by-side," he said.

"Very scary, I thought I wasn't going to make it."

Police breathe tested the driver and paramedics checked him at the scene.

There were intermittent closures on the M5 eastbound as recovery crews worked to remove the truck.
