Derailed Tram Flies Off Tracks And Smashes Through Front Fence Of Home
A tram on a busy Melbourne route has derailed and crashed into the front fence of a home.
Police believe a car was travelling on Cotham Road in Kew on Sunday when it collided with the tram travelling on the 109 route.
The tram became derailed following the collision and almost hit a resident in her front yard.
Emergency services were called to the incident just after 11:30am.
A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria told 10 daily crews assessed 19 people who disembarked from the tram, along with two people who were inside the car.
Seven people aged in their 60s and 70s were taken to hospital, including a woman in her 70s who suffered head and chest injuries. She remains in a serious but stable condition.
Buses were replacing trams on parts of Route 109 for several hours after the collision.
Services on the route resumed later on Sunday afternoon but passengers were warned to expect delays until normal frequency could be restored.
