Woman And Dog Killed, Five Others Injured In Horror Four Car Crash

A driver has died and several others have been injured after a horror crash involving four vehicles in the NSW Northern Rivers region on Sunday.

Police believe a silver sedan travelling northbound on the Pacific Highway at Chatsworth just before midday, crossed onto the wrong side of the road before colliding with oncoming traffic.

Sadly, the female driver of the sedan died at the scene and three passengers inside the car, a man, a woman and a girl were all found injured. A dog also died at the scene.

The three injured passengers were all taken to Lismore Base Hospital in unknown conditions.

Emergency workers who were called to the scene north of Grafton, spent a number of hours working to free the trapped female driver of another sedan involved in the crash.

She was also taken to Lismore Base Hospital suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

A male driver inside a third sedan was not physically injured in the crash and a male driver of the fourth vehicle involved, an SUV, was also not physically injured.

A female passenger inside the SUV was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Pacific Highway was closed around the crash site and significant traffic diversions were put in place around Grafton and Ballina for several hours, as investigators examined the scene.

Shortly after 7pm all lanes were re-opened on the highway and diversions lifted, with traffic conditions slowly returning back to normal in both directions.

Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward as investigations into the circumstances behind the fatal crash begin.
