Cracked Windshield Forces Packed Jetstar Flight To Divert

A Jetstar flight from Sydney to Bali was forced to divert to Melbourne after a crack appeared in the cockpit windshield.

Flight JQ37 was flying over the Northern Territory at about 5 pm Wednesday evening when the captain noticed the crack.

"While there was no impact to the structural integrity of the aircraft at any time, the decision was made to return to Melbourne as a precaution where the windscreen could be fixed quickly, to prevent further delays," a Jetstar spokesperson told 10 daily.

The flight landed safely at Tullamarine just after 10.30 pm.

Passengers were provided overnight accommodation as the airline organised "an alternative flight to ensure they resume their journey as soon as possible".

The plane is currently undergoing repairs.

Jetstar has apologised to anyone affected.
