Man Steals Car After Offering 'Free Car Wash' To Owner

Police are hunting for a man who is believed to have stolen a woman's newly sold car in Melbourne's south-east, after posing as a car washer.

The woman had sold her car on a car sales website when she received an email claiming to be from the same website, which stated she had won a free car wash.

After accepting her purported prize, police believe a man, posing as a car washer, attended the woman's home in Brighton around 3:30pm on Friday.

Police said the man took the victim's keys before stealing her black Holden Commodore sedan, registered 1MX4CM.

Investigators are now hunting for the man who is described as being of European appearance, about 177cm tall, with black hair and medium build.

He was seen wearing a blue shirt, yellow hi-vis top and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
