Man And Boy Crushed To Death By Falling Tree
A man and boy have been killed after a gumtree smashed into their car in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria.
The pair were travelling down Monbulk Road near Sherbrooke shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday evening when the tree smashed into their moving vehicle.
The driver, 46, and his passenger, 10, both from Cockatoo, died at the scene, according to Victoria Police.
Their relationship has not been confirmed.
Knox Highway Patrol officers spent several hours at the scene on Sunday and will prepare a report for the coroner.
The freak accident comes after the state was battered by a weekend of wild weather.
Sherbrooke sits 35 kilometres east of Melbourne's CBD and received just under 30 millimetres of rain on Sunday, according to Weatherzone.
On Thursday, paramedic Dearne Fulcher was killed when a tree fell onto the car she was in in the NSW Blue Mountains.
The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20's, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
NSW Ambulance posted a moving tribute to Fulcher on Twitter in the wake of the accident, describing her as a "shining light in her community and her profession."
