Mother Found Dead With Daughter Identified As German Woman
Community members are mourning the deaths of a woman and her young daughter whose bodies were found at a cliff lookout south of Sydney.
Emergency services found Tanja Ludwig, 33, and her two-year-old daughter at Robertson Lookout, at Wollongong's Mount Keira, about 2pm on Tuesday.
A rescue helicopter was seen working at the scene, hovering below the cliff edge, as police and ambulance crews gathered at a nearby road.
Their bodies were retrieved about 7pm, before crews returned to the scene on Wednesday morning to continue their investigation.
Members of the community have been laying flowers at the scene, mourning the lives lost.
Neighbour Athena Kinnis told 10 News First she was "shaken" by the news.
"I'm very sad ... I feel sorry for her family, for her, for the little girl," Kinnis said.
"I'm going to miss her. She was very friendly ... [a] very nice person."
Earlier, Superintendent Chris Craner said the incident would be "absolutely devastating" for the entire community.
“It’s going to be devastating for the family and my thoughts are also with the emergency services who have turned up here today to this horrific incident,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Police concluded their investigation on Wednesday and have confirmed they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
