Man Who Filmed Himself Mowing Down Emus Sentenced To Jail
A man who mowed down emus on an outback road and posted a video of it online has been sentenced to 42 days in jail by a Victorian court.
Jacob Scott MacDonald was sentenced in Mildura Magistrates Court on Thursday over the sickening attack on Pellaring Road at Cowangie, in Victoria's northwest, close to the SA border in September last year.
Video was posted on social media, sparking a nationwide manhunt before Victoria Police charged MacDonald with animal cruelty and traffic offences.
"F**king emus!" McDonald could be heard yelling in the video as he neared the birds.
"One, two, three! This is f**king great!"
McDonald couldn't bear to watch the footage when it was played in court, reports the Daily Mail, averting his eyes instead.
At the time, an RSPCA spokesperson told 10 daily that "such sickening cruelty" had no place in Australian society.
“The RSPCA unequivocally condemns this type of barbaric behaviour, as it clearly shows a disregard for the lives of these vulnerable native animals, and raises grave concerns over this individual’s capacity for such behaviour," the spokesperson said.
