Prison In Lockdown After Six Prisoners Fall Ill In Suspected Drug Overdose
Two prisoners have been flown to hospital and another four are being treated by paramedics in a suspected mass overdose in a Queensland prison.
Capricornia Correctional Centre is in lockdown after the Queensland Ambulance Service was called about 12.42pm on Sunday.
Seven units as well as the rescue helicopter were sent to the facility.
Two of the inmates have been flown to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
In a statement Queensland Corrective Services confirmed "a number of prisoners have fallen ill".
"Initial indications are that the symptoms may be related to drug ingestion, however we are working with Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Health and Queensland Police Service to establish the cause of the incident," the statement reads.
"At this stage six prisoners are being treated by QAS.
"The prison has been placed into lockdown, and all prisoners are being closely monitored for signs of illness."
