Firefighters Battle Blaze In Melbourne's CBD

A fire has broken out in Melbourne on the corner of Russell and Bourke Street and firefighters are evacuating the building.

The fire broke out approximately half an hour ago and the billowing smoke and flames are plainly visible from surrounding buildings.

Melbourne Fire Brigade are currently on the scene and have stated that 15 firefighting appliances are present and firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses are evacuating people from the front and back entrances.

One witness has stated that two floors, as well as the roof of the building, are now on fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
