Man Charged After Woman's Body Found In Melbourne CBD

Homicide detectives have charged a 32-year-old man after a woman's body was found in Melbourne's CBD. 

The woman, who is yet to be identified, was found dead at the intersection of Little Bourke Street and Celestial Avenue just after 6.30am on Wednesday.

Homicide detectives arrested a 32-year-old man later this afternoon.

He has now been charged with one count of murder, police said.

A post-mortem is being conducted on Wednesday evening to determine the woman's cause of death, though police said it is being treated as suspicious.

Earlier, the area was taped off as multiple police investigated the scene.

Police said the woman was approximately 33 years old and her body was discovered by a passer-by.

The SES were brought in to protect the evidence at the scene ahead of earlier rain, before homicide detectives took over the investigation.

The 32-year-old man from Cowes, will remain in custody overnight and is expected to appear before a Melbourne Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
