Tax relief for middle-income earners is the centerpiece of the government's pre-election budget which forecasts a $7.1 billion surplus next financial year. Ten million working Aussies, earning up to $126,000 a year, will get up to $1,080 back in their pocket from July, while Treasurer Josh Frydenberg promised that 94 per cent of the workforce will pay no more than 30 per cent tax by 2024.

Also in the Budget, a multi-billion dollar package for new roads and fast rail links, emergency cash for those affected by floods and drought, and almost 500 million for mental health programs and suicide prevention.

An investigation has been launched after a Jetstar plane encountered engine problems on a flight from Cairns to Japan. Both engines on the 787 Dreamliner suffered a surge in speed as the jet was coming in to land at Osaka Airport last week. Thankfully, the pilots managed to land safely.

A new series of condoms that can only be opened by two people has been launched to promote consent. The product, launched by the Argentinian contraceptive firm Tulipan, said they wanted to promote consensual sex, although it's not clear how effective this new product will be. It's also unclear if this is a genuine product launch, after may companies all over the world 'launched' fake products for April Fools Day (the product was announced in late March, with the help of advertising agency BBDO). 10 daily has reached out to the firm for clarification.
