Melbourne Train Evacuated Over Gun Case Reports, Turns Out To Be Sports Duffel Bag

A Melbourne train station was evacuated over reports of a possible gun sighting, only for police to discover it was a busker's sports bag.

Police responded to reports a man was allegedly carrying a firearm bag on a train at Flagstaff on Thursday.

Heavily armed officers were seen arriving at the station and entering a platform at around 8.30am.

Police evacuated the train and train station during the peak hour commute  and asked everyone to avoid the area.

The area was searched and has now been cleared by police.

"We have then spoken to the person who was acting suspiciously," a Victorian Police spokesperson said.

"There was no risk, he was a local busker that was there to play an instrument in town."

Trains have since resumed.
