A Zoo With Animals Is For Sale, No Experience Necessary
Victoria's largest regional zoo is up for sale and all the animals are included.
Halls Gap Zoo is located outside the town of Halls Gap, about three hours drive north-west of Melbourne. It's a 21-hectare property home to more than 160 species and if you've got a cool $5.5 million it could be yours.
Current owners Yvonne and Greg Culell bought the zoo 12 years ago and are selling it to spend more time with their grandchildren.
“We are two of the most incredibly blessed human beings, how many people get to be caretakers of the wonderful animals that we’ve been involved with?” Greg told website Commerical Real Estate.
In their time as owners, the Culells transformed the property from a mere wildlife park into a tourist attraction. They worked to breed species of animals at risk of extinction, which the Culells said was one of their most treasured experiences.
"We’ve bred endangered species that have been released into the wild…We’re leaving the planet in a better state than in what it was in 12 years ago when we took over this place," Greg said.
The zoo is home to native animals like wombats, wallabies and quolls and African animals including giraffes and leopards. There are even Asian red pandas.
The animals live in 10 different enclosures, some of which are 'open plains' so visitors can get close with the animals.
The great news is, prospective buyers don't need any previous experience with animals. The existing staff will work with the various species.
If you're after a career change, now could be the time. Owning this zoo is sure to be wild.
