Vivid Sydney Teams Up With Pixar As Part Of Bumper 2019 Program
It's almost that time of year again in the harbour city -- and this time around, the world's biggest animation studio is coming to the party.
Vivid Sydney, put on by Destination NSW, has announced its 2019 line up of light installations, events and musical acts.
Among the new additions is a partnership-first with Disney's Pixar Animation Studios, which will illuminate the Argyle Cut in The Rocks.
The projection will feature plenty of familiar faces, including Toy Story's Buzz and Woody, as it lights up the heritage-listed archway. The show will include behind-the-scenes artwork and the evolution of the studio's animation, organisers said.
"This year's Vivid Sydney program is bold, exciting and diverse, offering something for everyone," Destination NSW CEO and Vivid Executive Producer Sandra Chipchase said in a statement.
The festival's 11th instalment will run from May 24 to June 15 across the city.
Last year, more than two million people made their way into the CBD to catch a glimpse of the festivities.
Alongside the likes of Mr Potato Head and Slinky Dog, this year's Light Walk -- stretching more than three kilometres -- includes 50 artworks.
Los Angeles-based Chinese American artist-filmmaker Andrew Thomas Huang will be taking care of the Lighting of the Sails -- the projection which covers the Sydney Opera House -- with a tribute to Australia's native plants and flowers.
The 2019 program also includes a slew of big-name music acts.
RÜFÜS DU SOL and FKA Twigs will headline the Carriageworks program, while warehouse party Curve Ball will see feature Mallrat, Touch Sensitive and Hayden James.
Meanwhile, the Sydney Opera House will host Maggie Rogers, Sharon Van Etten, Underworld, Dirty Three and Herbie Hancock.
