A Dog In Queensland Is Being Held For $10,000 Ransom

A family whose French bulldog went missing nearly three weeks ago has told The Project police are now involved in the search for their "pocket rocket".

Chloe Scherini, from Queensland, believes her pet Jersey was picked up by a stranger after wandering to a truck stop near her home in Roma on January 20.

A week later, Scherini received a text message demanding a $10,000 ransom for Jersey.

"We got the text message and we replied to them but haven't heard anything back," Scherini said.

She said it is very out of character for her dog to wander off and not return.

"We are pretty stressed at the moment and a little hopeful that the people who are watching us... know how much we miss her and how much we want her back," she said.

"There are a number of Frenchies being taken. Being such valuable dogs, people are taking them and there is nobody we can talk to about it."

Queensland police have confirmed they are now involved.

"Police are investigating the reported extortion and are urging anyone with information to contact police," they said in a statement released on Friday morning.
