Disturbing Video Of Ex-NRL Star Luke O’Donnell Tasered In Arrest
WARNING: Some viewers may find the footage distressing.
Disturbing footage has emerged of the moment former NRL star Luke O'Donnell was dramatically arrested inside an apartment in Sydney's east.
The video was released after the 38-year-old appeared in court this week on a number of charges, including intimidation and assaulting police.
The bodycam footage from one of the arresting officers was taken in June last year, when police were called to the Clovelly unit.
It shows the former Roosters player resisting arrest for a number of minutes before officers taser him.
His distressed parents and girlfriend, inside the apartment at the time, can be heard pleading with him to calm down before begging police not to taser him.
O'Donnell can be heard in the video repeatedly swearing at officers.
“Listen here you c***, you’re not putting handcuffs on me, I’ll f**king smash the f*** out of you, get off me,” he can be heard saying in the video as up to four police officers attempted to restrain him.
“C*** get off me, go back to f****ing Goulburn police school you p**** get off me now.”
It's understood his family raised the alarm to police because of concerns for his welfare.
O'Donnell's lawyers had applied to have the charges dropped on mental health grounds, but that was rejected by a court.
O'Donnell was convicted of four charges including assaulting a police officer. fined $1600, and placed on a one-year corrections order.
He has also been warned to stay away from drugs.
O'Donnell officially retired from his NRL career in 2013 after featuring in the Rooster's premiership-winning team.
