Woman And Young Child Injured In Whitsundays Shark Attack
A young child and a woman are being treated for injuries after a shark attack on the Whitsundays.
Queensland Ambulance said they responded to reports of two shark bites were in shallow beach water.
The attack occurred near Resort Drive just before 9:30am on Thursday morning, ambulance services said.
Queensland Ambulance confirmed to 10 daily that both patients are in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The child sustained a foot injury while the woman will require stitches for an injury to her leg.
Queensland Ambulance told 10 daily the young girl is of primary school age, under the age of 10.
The pair are currently being treated at Hamilton Island Medical Centre and the girl is being prepared to be transported to a hospital.
It comes after twin shark attacks in the Whitsundays in September last year sparked a furor of questions over safety in nearby waters.
More to come.
