Man Dead, Woman Injured After Car Hit By Train In 'Confronting' Crash

A man has died and a woman is seriously injured after a train struck a car in remote central-west New South Wales. 

Five ambulance crews and a helicopter rushed to Kiatacoo Road at Euabalong, about 200 km west of Parkes, about 7am on Friday morning.

NSW Ambulance Assistant Commissioner Tony Gately said crews arrived to a "confronting" scene, after the Toyota Hilux utility was hit by a train at a level crossing.

"Tragically one person has died as a result of the crash," he said.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, died at the scene.

A 50-year-old female passenger, who was trapped in the utility, suffered serious shoulder injuries and was airlifted to Lake Cargellico Hospital.

Police are investigating the crash.
