Ferries Cancelled As Sydney Engulfed By Thick Fog
Sydney commuters trying to catch ferries on Thursday morning were thrown into chaos by a thick fog engulfing the city.
Services from Sydney Olympic Park to Barangaroo along the Parramatta River were cancelled early on Thursday due to poor visibility.
"F3 Parramatta River ferries are not running due to heavy fog," the Sydney Ferries Info Twitter account posted.
"Make other arrangements and catch a train or regular bus service instead."
Within the hour, however, ferry services had returned to normal, although commuters were advised to allow extra travel time.
Heavy rain on Tuesday combined with a clear sky overnight and little wind caused the dense fog, which began clearing by about 7am.
"There's no doubt the extent of the fog was enhanced by the rain we had yesterday," a spokesperson for the Bureau of Meteorology told ten daily.
The city was all but invisible from North Sydney, with the usual Circular Quay background behind the famous Sirius building completely obscured.
Online, people shared photos of the thick fog.
