Winx Races Further Into History, Takes Out 27th Consecutive Victory
After besting Black Caviar's record for most consecutive wins last month, Winx has continued her streak.
She's done it again.
Mighty mare Winx has extended her national record for most consecutive wins, taking out the Group 1 $500,000 Colgate Optic White George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.
Not just her 27th win in a row, the victory makes her the first horse to win three consecutive George Main Stakes, taking her career earnings to almost $20 million.
With 500 metres to go, Winx had more than 13,000 racegoers nervous as she trailed seven lengths behind the race lead.
Never one to disappoint, the champion kicked into top gear at the 200 meter mark, securing the win by almost a full three lengths.
"I thought we saw the best of her today," Jockey Hugh Bowman said after the race.
"At the corner I had to ask her to get into gear but she just, she knows this track better than I do and she knew when it was time to go and she balanced up.
"It was a pretty good feeling I must admit."
Le Romain finished second ahead of Egg Tart in third.
Winx dethroned Black Caviar as national record holder for most consecutive wins last month with her win in the $500,000 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) -- her namesake race.
With no talks of retirement just yet, she will now be aimed toward an unprecedented fourth Cox Plate win in a row.
