Everywhere Tom Hanks And Rita Wilson Went In Australia Before Coronavirus Diagnosis
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's coronavirus diagnosis has left Channel Nine, Sydney Opera House, and a Gold Coast film set scrambling to find everyone the couple came into contact with while in Oz.
The couple has been busy during their time Down Under.
But it all came to a standstill when Hanks revealed on Thursday that both he and his wife, Rita Wilson, had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Here's where Hanks and Wilson have been travelling during their time in Australia in the lead up to their positive coronavirus diagnosis.
Gold Coast And Brisbane
Hanks arrived in the country in late January and went straight to the Gold Coast where he is believed to have stayed in the same building as a Chinese national who had an early Australian case of coronavirus.
The actor is working with acclaimed filmmaker Baz Luhrmann on an Elvis Presley biopic, and the film set is located on the Gold Coast.
“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus)," Warner Bros. said in a statement.
Village Roadshow Studios said the Oxenford studio being used for the Elvis film.
“The production is working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual."
The statement also stressed that Warner Bros. Movie World will continue to operate as normal, as the Elvis film was being shot "well away from its MovieWorld theme park."
Wilson, who is on a music tour to promote her new album HalfwayTo Home, performed at the Emporium Hotel in Brisbane's Southbank on March 5.
Emporium Hotel General Manager Charles Martin reassured hotel guests, staff and visitors that there has been cleaning and sanitisation of the room in which Wilson performed, as well other areas the couple visisted
The Hotel will also be contacting -- via email-- the lead name of the person who purchased tickets for Rita Wilson’s show to advise of the current situation.
“Ensuring the safety of our guests and employees is our greatest priority," Martin said.
On Saturday evening, Rita Wilson held an intimate concert at the Opera House where she performed before a crowd of 200 in the Utzon room.
NSW Health department officials are in the process of contacting audience members who sat near Tom Hanks at the Opera House show.
"This includes getting in touch with anyone, including patrons and staff, who may have been in contact with the couple while at the Opera House," a spokesperson for the Opera House told 10 daily.
The spokesperson said the site remains open and tours and performances will proceed as planned unless otherwise advised.
On Sunday, Hanks shared an image on his Instagram account, placing him at Sydney's iconic Bondi beach.
Come Monday, Wilson appeared on Today Extra at the Channel Nine studios in Sydney's north, performing her new single and chatting with hosts David Campbell and Belinda Russell.
“Nine today has taken action in line with our crisis response plan around a visit to our studio by Ms Rita Wilson on Monday this week, for an appearance on Today Extra with David Campbell and Belinda Russell,” a Nine spokesperson told 10 daily in a statement.
“Our actions are in line with the guidelines set out by the Government and Health Authorities. Those who were in prolonged contact with Ms Wilson have been tested and are self-isolating for 14 days.
“Our premises is currently being thoroughly cleaned in all areas she visited and we are encouraging our employees to monitor their health and practice good hygiene,” Nine said.
By Thursday, the Hollywood couple confirmed their diagnosis and are currently being isolated and treated.
