Deaf Man Sues Pornhub Over Insufficient Closed Captions

Pornhub, which hosts millions of adult videos, should better cater to its deaf customers, one man is arguing.

Yaroslav Suris, from New York City, has filed a class-action lawsuit alleging sites like Pornhub, YouPorn and RedTube are in violation of U.S. federal law.

Suris claims the lack of closed captioning on videos like “Hot Step Aunt Babysits Disobedient Nephew” and “Sexy Cop Gets Witness To Talk" has left him an unsatisfied viewer, according to the New York Post.

A premium subscriber to Pornhub, Suris claimed his rights have been violated under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) because when he watches adult entertainment videos, he can't hear the audio.

Porn Star Explains Why 'Hentai' Is On The Rise

While Hentai is fast becoming more popular than real porn, Australian adult entertainer Jessie Lee Pierce says the anime genre is "surprisingly arousing".

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in areas of “employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local government programs and services."

Suris' lawsuit claims the listed porn websites can be categorised under 'places of public accommodation’. It states these sites "deny equal access to their video content, which is available to hearing individuals and violates the ADA".

He is reportedly seeking compensatory damages, civil penalties and fines against the company.

Pornhub VP Corey Price acknowledged Suris's claims in a statement shared with TMZ.

“While we do not generally comment on active lawsuits, we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that we do have a closed captions category," Price said.
