WATCH: NZ Firefighters Who Helped Fight NSW Bushfires Perform Farewell Haka Before Heading Home
A group of New Zealand firefighters have packed up and headed home after weeks of helping fight the NSW bushfires, but before they said 'kia ora', they performed a farewell Haka.
Ballina based mayor Robert Mustow shared footage of the performance on Facebook.
The Richmond Valley Council Mayor said the NZ crew had invited him to a farewell event at their Ballina motel before they headed home.
New Zealand firefighters were called in to assist the NSW Rural Fire Service in battling bushfires which have devastated the state in the last few weeks.
You can watch the video of the Haka at the top of this story.
Mustow said the Kiwi crew had been in the area for a couple of weeks, fighting the fires and using the local Broadwater Hall as their shift changeover and dining venue.
It was wonderful to meet them during their visit and I sincerely thank them for the effort and contribution to keeping our community safe in our time of need.
