Perth Ranked Best City In Australia For Driving
We all like to think we’re good drivers – but now know officially where the best driving conditions in Australia are … and the result might surprise you.
Perth is the best city in Australia and the 13th best in the world to drive in, according to a new report comparing motoring conditions in 100 cities across the world, and as a local, it sure did surprise me.
Perth far outranked Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney coming in at 67, 83 and 86 in the world rankings on infrastructure costs and safety.
The 2019 Driving Cities Index rated Calgary in Canada as the best city to drive in, giving it a perfect score of 100, and Mumbai in India the worst, with an overall score of one.
All the Australian cities included (Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney) had the same average cost for petrol.
In terms of parking affordability and the cost of parking over two hours, Perth came in the cheapest and Sydney the most expensive (probably no surprises there).
The average age of cars across all four Australian cities is approximately 10 years.
Brisbane is number one in the world in terms of its air quality score, but one of the worst overall to drive in (67).
“Parking rates in Brisbane’s CBD are the highest in Australia, for just 30 minutes of off-street parking drivers are slugged an average of $18.20 and for an hour they can pay an average of $31.41,” RACQ's Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael said on Thursday.
