Meet The Unicorn Rescue Pup Born With A Tail On His Face
Narwhal the adorable furry unicorn has captured hearts around the world thanks to his unique appearance.
The 10-week old puppy was found dumped in rural Missouri last week and appears to have a secondary tail growing smack bang in the middle of his forehead.
Staff at animal shelter Mac's Mission quickly took him into their care -- naming him Narwhal.
A Narwhal, just FYI, is a species of whale that lives in arctic waters and is known for its large tusk protruding from their heads.
The pup appeared to suffer an injured paw but was otherwise unharmed. A big concern for rescuers, however, was the extra appendage dangling from his forehead.
So, Narwhal was taken to the local vet to be checked out professionally.
An X-ray was carried out and the million-dollar question was answered: Does it wag? Sadly, no.
The secondary tail, about a third of the size of its actual tail, is not connected to anything and serves no purpose other than to make him "the coolest puppy ever," according to Mac's Mission.
"The unicorn face tail does not bother Narwhal and he never slows down just like any normal puppy," a spokesperson for the animal shelter wrote on Facebook.
"He seems completely healthy other than some usual puppy worms he got meds for".
The bad news is, Narwhal is not available for adoption immediately.
The shelter will not home him until they are sure the tail won't bother him.
"Right now he is pretty much the most unique amazing example of what we do here and we are so thankful to have the chance to be part of his journey," they said.
Dogs are often dumped in rural Missouri and Mac's Mission takes in those with special needs such as those with deformities, clefts or those who have suffered trauma.
Their goal is to give those dogs, who would otherwise have been put down, a chance at life.
