Townsville Couple 'Fell To Their Deaths': Police

Police say the deaths of Townsville couple Simon Walker and Sherei Anderson were a result of "misadventure".

The couple's bodies were found in a search near Cairns on Monday night after they both failed to turn up to work.

It's understood the couple vanished while camping in the Goldsborough area.

On Tuesday, Cairns Police Detective Acting Inspector Ed Kinbacher said their bodies were found at Kearneys Falls by emergency helicopter on Monday night.

“The bodies have been recovered from the location and they have been identified as two Townsville residents — a 32-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man,” Kinbacher said.

“We believe this incident is a direct consequence of misadventure rather than any third party involvement.

“It appears in the preliminary stages they have fallen, making the unwise decision to climb the quite steep falls which were in fact closed above that swimming hole … and falling to their deaths."

It's understood that Anderson had recently returned from a trip to Japan.

Police are still trying to work out when the couple died.

They have asked for anyone who may have seen the pair at the camping ground to come forward.

Queensland Parks said the Goldsborough Valley section of Wooroonooran National Park will be closed until Saturday.
