Police Release CCTV As They Investigate Alleged Sexual Assault
Police have released additional CCTV footage as they investigate an alleged sexual assault in Sydney.
A 22-year-old woman became separated from her friends at a bar on Oxford Street, Surry Hills, just after 1.30am on Sunday morning.
While waiting outside, the woman was approached by a man and the pair walked 2.5km to Turner Lane, Woolloomooloo, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.
The woman phoned a friend before seeking help at Sutherland Hospital and reporting the incident to police.
Officers have released vision of a man they believe can help police with their inquiries.
He is described as being of Indian Sub-Continental appearance, about 170cm tall, with a thin build, and was wearing a white t-shirt, dark-coloured long pants, and glasses.
Anyone who recognises the man is being urged to contact police.
"We treat all matters of sexual violence seriously and those that commit sexual violence need to be brought to account for their actions," Acting Superintendent Paul Callaghan said.
“There is no excuse for sexual violence, and it’s time for the whole community to stand up and say it won’t be tolerated at any time.
“That’s why we are continuing to call for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward and tell us what they know.”
