Cat Stabbed 20 Times Before Being Thrown Off Balcony

A woman has been arrested, accused of stabbing her cat to death before throwing it off a second-floor balcony in Sydney's north-east.

Police were called to a property on Mooramba Road in Dee Why just before 8.30 Wednesday morning, where they discovered the body of a cat.

The animal was taken to a local vet who concluded that it had been stabbed 20 times, NSW Police confirmed.

It's alleged the cat was then thrown from a second-floor balcony following the attack.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested a short time later and taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for assessment.

She has since been charged with torture, beating and causing death of an animal and committing an act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal.

The teenager spent the night behind bars, having been refused bail and is expected to appear in Manly Local Court on Thursday.

NSW Police confirmed a second cat found at the property has been removed and placed in the care of the RSPCA.
