Brekky Wrap: Aussie Pool Trials Gender-Specific Swimming Sessions

Canberra Olympic Pool is trialling gender-specific pool sessions. During October, there will be female-only sessions for an hour-and-a-half on Saturday's and male-only sessions on Sunday's. Canberra Muslim Community president Mainul Haque has told The Canberra Times that the sessions will encourage more women to attend the pool. "The main challenge is keeping our communities healthy and getting them involved in physical activities," he said. "How do you do that? Give them the confidence they need".

Back home, a man has died, a woman is seriously injured following a zipline accident in Far North Queensland. The pair fell more than 10 metres from the tourist attraction in the Daintree Rainforest yesterday afternoon. The 53-year-old man died at the scene while a 42-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A roadworker has been hit by a ute in Sydney's north. The man was struck on the M1 at Berowra just after 3am. The incident has caused traffic chaos with northbound and southbound lanes affected between the Berowra and Windybanks interchanges. Drivers are urged to allow for extra travel time.

A toddler has died after being hit by a car in the driveway of a home in Taree on the NSW Mid-North Coast.  The 20-month-old girl was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where she later died. The driver, 24, has undergone mandatory testing.

Health Insurance premiums could rise by twice the rate of inflation next year. It’s reportedly due to the rising cost of medical devices. Private Healthcare Australia chairman John Hill told the Sydney Morning Herald insurance would have "no other option" than to pass on the costs. Health Minister Greg Hunt is due to announced any approved price hike by December.

Back overseas, Turkey and Russia have agreed to establish a ‘safe zone’ in Syria. Troops from both countries will then conduct joint patrols within 10 kays of the Northern Syria border. The announcement comes as Russia’s defence minister confirmed that up to 500 people, including Islamist fighters, escaped from captivity after Turkey launched its offensive.
