One Of The World's Rarest Geese Died At Victorian Zoo

One of the world's rarest geese was among six animals to sadly die at Victorian zoos in the last financial year.

A Cape Barren Goose gosling held at Werribee Open Range Zoo for rehabilitation died after becoming tangled in a rope used to secure its food, according to Zoos Victoria's annual report 2018-19, tabled in parliament on Thursday.

At Melbourne Zoo, three Southern Fiddler Rays died in a temporary holding tank, believed due to lack of oxygen in the water, and a Gould's Wattled Bat died during a veterinary procedure after an inadvertent overdose, according to the report.
