Hero Dog Saves Her Owner From Burning House
Gucci the pomeranian has been hailed a hero after saving her owner from a fierce blaze at a home south-west of Sydney.
The Dargie Place property in Eagle Vale went up in flames just after 11pm on Monday while George Rutonski was sound asleep.
"I was in bed sleeping ... and she started going off," Rutonski told 10 News First.
His neighbour, Fred Sukkar, stepped in to help when he saw flames erupting from the roof.
Both managed to escape the inferno as firefighters arrived.
“If it wasn't for the dog, the man wouldn't be here right now," Sukkar said.
"The dog saved his life literally ... [he] literally saved his life."
It took two hours for crews to extinguish the blaze which left the home significantly damaged.
Paramedics treated Rutonski for smoke inhalation at the scene before he was taken to Campbelltown Hospital in a stable condition, NSW Ambulance confirmed to 10 daily.
As for Gucci, she escaped injury and looked to be in good spirits by the time 10 News First reporter Lia Harris arrived at the property on Tuesday morning.
Rutonski said he "would have been dead" without his beloved pet.
Fire and Rescue NSW is investigating the cause of the blaze.
