A golden retriever named Kai has shed more than 45 kg after his owner took him to the vet in Alberta and demanded he be euthanised. Instead of putting him down, the vet contacted animal workers in a bid to find the obese pup a new home and a healthier life. Pam Heggie became Kai's new foster mother and helped him shed more than half of his body weight through a strict diet and exercise. The journey was documented on Facebook, while Kai also showed off his new body on Good Morning America last week. "He learned that I was going to help him and we were going to be ok," Heggie told the program. "He shows you how to do a really big task literally one day at a time".
Canadian police say they've found the bodies of two teenagers, suspected of murdering Sydney man Lucas Fowler. The bodies of Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmelgsky were found in dense bushland near the Nelson River and the small town of Gillam, Manitoba. Their cause of death remains unknown.

After two days of passionate debate, NSW MPs are set to consider proposed amendments to a bill decriminalising abortion. In its current form, the bill would allow terminations up to 22 weeks, as well as later abortions if two doctors give the green light. Attorney-General Mark Speakman and Planning Minister Rob Stokes are among those who have drafted amendments to the bill, which mainly focus on the regulation and performance of late-term abortions.
