'Like A Horror Film': Terrifying Moment A British Airways Plane Fills With Smoke
Terrifying footage has emerged of the moment a British Airways plane became engulfed in smoke, forcing passengers to use the emergency slide to evacuate.
The Airbus A321 had taken off from Heathrow Airport on Monday afternoon without incident but as it approached Valencia Airport in Spain two hours later, the cabin began to fill with smoke.
Panicked passengers were quick to post photos and videos of the incident on social media.
"PANIC!!! FEAR [I have] never experienced anything like it," one Twitter user wrote in Spanish. "The plane in which we flew London-Valencia has been set on fire!"
Another user, Lucy Brown, labelled the experience terrifying.
"[It] felt like a horror film. Thankfully everyone is safe," she tweeted alongside a series of photos which show just how smokey the aircraft became before passengers could safely flee.
Other passengers criticized British Airways for the lack of communication throughout the ordeal.
"Shocking handling of the emergency scenario at Valencia," Stephen McConnon wrote alongside a video taken inside the hazy cabin. "
"Plane full of smoke, no oxygen, no announcements on the plane and no staff dealing with anything in the airport. The most terrifying experience of my life and no reaction from you. Shocking!!"
“We can confirm that British Airways flight BA422 from Heathrow to Valencia has been involved in an incident today," the airline said in a brief statement on Tuesday.
“The aircraft, an A321, has landed and all customers and crew have disembarked. British Airways teams are assisting customers who are in the airport terminal".
It's still not known what caused the emergency but it's understood everyone on board evacuated safely.
