Driver Flees After Hitting Woman In Wheelchair

A driver was apprehended by witnesses after allegedly fleeing from the scene of a crash.

At about 11 am on Tuesday morning a small truck travelling south on King Street, Newtown, in the Inner West of Sydney, crashed into a pole.

According to police the truck left the roadway and struck a traffic light outside a strip of shops on the busy road.

The tuck also struck an elderly woman, 87,  who was in a wheelchair at the time. She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and is in a stable condition.

It is alleged the driver then fled the scene.
