Woman In Viral Ice Cream Licking Video Will Be Charged By Police
Police believe they have identified the woman in a "disgusting" viral ice cream video.
The video showed a woman licking a tub of ice cream before putting it back in the supermarket freezer.
Lufkin city authorities began investigating the incident after it went viral on Twitter, spurring the ice cream brand Blue Bell to work with law enforcement and the Texas supermarket to find the offender.
Lufkin Police Department have now posted on their Facebook page that they believe they have identified the woman and "appropriate charges will be filed".
The video was widely condemned widely across social media. In response, Blue Bell removed all of the same ice cream products from the shelves of Walmart in Lufkin.
"Our biggest concern is consumer safety -- in that regard we are glad to see the tainted product off the shelves," Lufkin Director of Safety Gerald Williamson said.
Unlike other brands in the U.S., Blue Bell does not have plastic seals on top of their ice cream within the carton. However, the company assured customers it would be difficult to accidentally purchase a product of theirs that had been tampered with.
"During production, our half gallons are flipped upside down and sent to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to lid creating a natural seal," a company statement said.
"The lids are frozen tightly to the carton. Any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable."
