Two Australians have been injured after an out of control cruise ship rammed into a dock and tourist boat in Venice. Footage shows people running from the scene as the ship ploughed into the dockside, horn blaring. The incident is being blamed on a mechanical issue.

Hope is fading fast for a Sydney mountaineer missing after an avalanche on one of India’s highest peaks. Ruth McCance and seven other climbers were attempting to summit a previously unclimbed route up Nanda Devi East when they lost contact with the remainder of the group at base camp. Footsteps have been found heading into the path of an avalanche.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has pledged $250 million for infrastructure as part of an aid program in the Solomon Islands. He has also vowed to make it easier for islanders to get work in Australia. Morrison has become the first Australian PM to visit the Solomons in a decade. Meanwhile, in politics, new Labor leader Anthony Albanese is kicking off his listening tour in Tasmania to find out what went wrong during the federal election campaign.

The country's east is in for a wild and wintery start to the week. Victoria is being lashed by heavy rain, strong winds and icy storms this morning. The wild weather is expected to hit Sydney by this afternoon with the weather bureau forecasting wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres an hour.

A young girl, 5, is lucky to be alive after being hit in the head by a glass bottle at Corona, California. Karla Herrera was walking home from school with her siblings on Friday when a driver threw a bottle out of the window. Herrera was left with a fractured skull and collarbone and remained in intensive care on Sunday. The driver didn't stop at the scene and remains on the run.
