Groundbreaking Gillette Ad Praised Worldwide For Transgender Support Message

Praise has been piled on Gilette after its new ad championed a transgender teen and the bond he has with his father.

The clip features the real story of Canadian Samson Brown being taught how to shave for the first time.

“I always knew I was different but I didn’t know that there was a term for the type of person that I was," Brown said in the emotional video.

"I went into my transition just wanting to be happy. I'm glad I'm at the point where I'm able to shave."

As he starts to move his razor down his face, Brown's father looks on, smiling and telling his son he's doing great.

On-screen text at the end of the film reads 'whenever, however it happens - your first shave is special.'

The touching video dropped last week and has been shared thousands of times across social media, with many people left in tears.

In a personal Facebook post, Brown said his father has always been his greatest support throughout his transition, encouraging him to "be confident and live authentically" as his best self.

"I'm confident that this ad will encourage many of my trans siblings and fill them with the knowledge that our existence in this world can be filled with the love and support we deserve," he said.

The ad is part of a larger #MyBestSelf campaign which is all about embracing and promoting the various faces of masculinity.

In January, the company unveiled a film called  'We Believe: The Best Men Can Be' addressing cyberbullying, sexual harassment and mansplaining, as well as the #MeToo movement.

It's been seen 30 million times.
