A dead man has been elected mayor of Maypearl, Texas. Philip Veltman, 71, died on March 15 from complications relating to leukaemia, but it was too late to remove him from the May 4 ballot. Veltman managed to win the election with 62 percent of the votes. It will now be up to the city council to appoint someone else as mayor.
