Chaos For Melbourne Commuters After Pedestrian Hit By Train

Melbourne's train network has descended into chaos after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a train in the city's south-east.

Huge lines of passengers are winding through the city waiting for bus replacements on sections of the Sandringham line during peak hour on Monday.

Trains between Flinders Street and Sandringham are set to resume but further delays are expected.

Emergency services arrived at the scene on Holyrood Street in Hampton just after 4pm.

Police said in a statement the pedestrian, a woman who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

"The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined at this stage," the statement said.
