A huge fire has engulfed the Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of Paris. The roof of the 850-year-old Gothic building collapsed, so too did the spire, as firefighters desperately worked to bring the blaze under control. Thousands of Parisians lined the banks of the River Seine, watching the cathedral burn, in silence.
In good news, authorities have confirmed the main structure has been saved. "We will rebuild this cathedral," declared French president Emmanuel Macron. It’s not yet known what caused the blaze, but it may be linked to recent renovations.

A college student in California has died after being shot by a pellet gun at a fraternity party. Will Molina, 21, had passed out at an off-campus Pi Kappa Alpha gathering on Friday when he was shot in the chest. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. No arrests have been made.
