Supermarket Apologises For 'Racist' Chocolate Duck

UK supermarket chain Waitrose has apologised after a Twitter user drew attention to the labelling on a dark chocolate duck.

The trio of chocolate ducks were called "crispy", "fluffy" and "ugly", with the dark chocolate labelled the latter due to its multi-coloured spattering.

The Twitter user posted a photo of the packaging saying that she had overheard "women saying 'this is not right'".

"I agree, doesn't look good at all. Thousands of other options...why #ugly?????"

Some Twitter users were outraged that attention was being drawn to the packaging and accused the original posting of looking for a problem.

A spokeswoman for Waitrose  told Sky News that the chain is "very sorry for any upset caused by the name of this product, it was absolutely not our intention to cause any offence."

The naming of the ducklings was allegedly related to the fairytale of the Ugly Duckling.

Waitrose stated that they have now removed the products with the controversial labelling but the duckling package is still on sale.

The Twitter user has stood by her original post despite criticism stating that "when something is left unchallenged, it is further normalised".
