'Lucky To Be Alive': Incredible Close Call For Little Boy
Police are urging drivers to be extra alert on the road ahead of the Easter break after dramatic dashcam footage of a 12-year-old boy being hit by a car emerged.
The young boy was running across a road in Sydney's west last week before an oncoming vehicle collected him, hitting him on the hip.
Dashcam footage captured the incident on Palisade Crescent, Bonnyrigg last Thursday afternoon.
The boy was taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution and treated for minor abrasions before being released.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said the situation could have easily been very different.
“This young boy is lucky to be alive, and if vision like this isn’t enough to encourage people to slow down and drive safely, I don’t know what is,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
“It’s a timely reminder to all drivers and pedestrians to take extra care on our roads. There should be no unnecessary distractions when getting behind the wheel or crossing the road.
The Commissioner urged parents to talk to their children about road safety and remind them to look both directions before crossing a road.
“We want to make sure there are no more fatalities on the roads, and that responsibility begins with you,” Corboy said.
