Virgin Flight Diverted And Makes Emergency Landing Two Hours Into Trip

A passenger flight from Brisbane was forced to land at Newcastle Airport because of safety concerns over its cargo.

According to Virgin Australia flight VA938 from Brisbane to Sydney landed safely after diverting to Newcastle Airport this afternoon following "the activation of a warning light in the cargo hold."

The aircraft landed just before 12.30pm on Friday and was met by emergency services "as a precautionary measure."

Earlier reports of a fire in the cargo have not been confirmed.
