A University of New England professor and her sister have been found dead in Argentina. Lily Pereg and her sister Pyrhia Sarusi were discovered in a shallow grave in the city of Mendoza. A 36-year-old man has reportedly been arrested for the murder of the women.

Dozens of people have been hospitalised for suspected drug overdoses across regional Victoria and Sydney. At least four people were taken to hospital after attending Victoria’s Rainbow Serpent festival over the weekend. In Sydney, 14 people were rushed to hospital and another 57 charged with drug offences at two different events on Australia Day.

Police are hunting a man who allegedly indecently assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Sydney. The girl was leaving a gaming arcade in Haymarket on Sunday when the alleged incident occurred. She told family members who called police but the man is still at large.

Doctors are seeking legal advice on managing patients who have opted-out of the My Health Record as the January 31 deadline looms. Independent MP Dr Kerryn Phelps is concerned about malpractice if doctors are not told how to handle patients who have opted-out.

A member of Thailand's most popular girl band has given a tearful apology after wearing a t-shirt with a Nazi-style swastika on it. Pichayapa "Namsai" Natha, one of the singers of BNK48 wore the shirt during a  rehearsal. The deputy chief of mission of the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok expressed "shock and dismay" on Twitter at the shirt. The 19-year-old singer issued an apology on-stage at the band's concert and also on Facebook.

Rescue teams continue to search for hundreds of people missing after a dam collapse in Brazil. At least 37 people have been killed but more than 250  are feared dead.
