More than 40 people gathered for an evening vigil to remember murdered woman Nicole Cartwright. The event was held in the Hunters Hill park where her body was discovered bounded and beaten three days after she was last seen. The small group, including local police and Councillors, gathered in Buffalo Creek Reserve by candlelight to comfort each other over Cartwright's shock death and to pay their respects to the now lost 32-year-old.

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's son Alex posted a video to Facebook on Thursday, urging voters to vote against the Liberal party in the up-coming Wentworth by-election. Alex said the Liberal Party has been overtaken by "extremists on the hard right who aren’t particularly motivated to win elections and aren’t particularly motivated to serve the public." The man pre-selected for the Liberal party to contest the seat of Wentworth is Dave Sharma -- the former Australian ambassador to Israel. The by-election will be held on October 20.

Widespread storms and destructive winds have struck across Queensland between South Burnett and the Sunshine Coast. A tornado warning was issued for the state's southeast mid-afternoon on Thursday following the severe weather. Three people were hospitalised after suffering cuts and abrasions when hail smashed the window of their car. Communities are now left with the monumental task of cleaning up after the storm.

Two astronauts from the U.S. and Russia have been forced to make an emergency landing after the rocket they were travelling in failed after launch. The pair were en route to the International Space Station when it went into " ballistic descent mode" meaning the rocket was at a sharper angle than normal and was forced to return to earth. NASA said that the two astronauts are in a "good condition" following the ordeal.

U.S. first lady Melania Trump said a key reason behind her creating her anti-bullying initiative "Be Best" was because she is " the most bullied person on the world". In an interview with ABC News in America, she said her personal experience with bullying made her want to tackle the issue with a focus on cyber-bullying. She also said seeing her son Barron's experiences with online bullying and the presence of social media in young lives was another motivator for the launch of the initiative.

Kanye West has met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, where he staged a monologue that left Trump nearly speechless. In the 10 minute speech, West addressed his experience with mental illness, his family and that he won't be running for president until 2024, instead endorsing Trump. Rarely a man with nothing to say, Trump responded with, "That was quite something. That was quite something."

Australia has managed to walk away from the first test against Pakistan with a draw -- when earlier it appeared they would be easily beaten. The fifth day of the test saw Australia bat through the day at Dubai Stadium with a final score of 8/362. Usman Khawaja was the saving grace for the Aussies, scoring a test century.

Things got a little steamy on Thursday's episode of The Bachelorette, which saw some of the guys join Ali on the season's photo shoot date. It was established that Robert and Ali have a lot of chemistry. Earlier, Ali took Charlie on the first single date of the season and it appeared they had chemistry too.
