Possible Aussie Listeria Case From Frozen Veges Listeria Outbreak
The listeria case was identified in Australia in February and is now being linked to the recalled frozen vegetables.
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services has revealed that a Victorian may have contracted listeria as a result of consuming the recently recalled frozen vegetables.
Wooworths, Aldi and IGA recalled multiple packets of frozen vegetables after a possible listeria outbreak.
According to Food Standard Australia New Zealand, the recall is due to ‘possible microbial (Listeria monocytogenes) contamination’.
Greenyard Frozen Belgium NV is conducting a recall of the products which have been available for sale at Woolworths, ALDI and IGA, Campbells and Independent grocery stores.
The Department of Health identified a case of listeria from earlier in 2018 that has now been linked to the strain in Europe which has led to a recall,
The listeria is the same serotype with similar genetics.
Unfortunately, the Victorian case who was being treated for another serious illness died earlier this year.
The department has said it is not possible to confirm whether this person actually consumed any of the frozen vegetable products.
The family has requested that no further details be released.
Listeriosis is an illness usually caused by eating food contaminated by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.
Although uncommon, it can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
The products being recalled originate in Belgium and Hungry.
